Still no further details released on tragic Winnetka crash

Five days after a horrific crash that resulted in the death of two women, authorities have provided few details on the nature and cause of the incident.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office, citing an ongoing investigation, has declined to provide more information on the crash, in which a vehicle struck three pedestrians — an infant, a mother and a grandmother — around 6 p.m. on Friday, May 2, on Church Road near Winnetka and in an unincorporated part of the county.

Kenilworth resident Sediqeh “Asra” Samadi, 37, and her mother, Raziyeh Sigary, 58, died as a result of the crash, while the infant was hospitalized.

According to reporting from the Chicago Tribune, Samadi was a chemical engineer at Abbott Labs, and Sigary was visiting her daughter and grandchild from Iran.

In its initial statement, the sheriff’s office said no foul play was suspected in the crash, which also hospitalized the driver and the car’s passenger with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators have asked anyone with information to call (708) 765-4896.

The North Shore has united to support the grieving family.

A fundraiser had also raised more than $100,000 across 700+ donations as of Thursday, May 8. Per the wishes of the family, The Record is not sharing further details of the fundraiser.

Kenilworth Union Church held a community prayer service on Tuesday, May 6, offering to support to all of those impacted by the tragedy that occurred just outside of Indian Hill Country Club.

“Together we will share a moment of prayer, hear a song of comfort, and light candles in remembrance and hope. This will be a simple and quiet time to come together as a community,” according to the event listing.
