Winnetka crash kills 2 pedestrians, sends infant to hospital

(Updated on Monday, May 5, with the names of the deceased.)

Two women were killed and an infant was hospitalized after a car struck them in Winnetka on Friday night.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office says that a vehicle headed southbound on Church Road struck two adult females — identified as Sediqeh Samadi, 37, and Raziyeh Sigary, 58 — and a child in a stroller at approximately 6 p.m. near the intersection of Meadow Road. The location is known as the Indian Hill neighborhood, at the southern border of Winnetka and northern border of Kenilworth and adjacent to the Indian Hill Country Club.

Sigary was pronounced dead at the scene, while Samadi later died at Evanston Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. The medical examiner could not yet identify the residence of either woman.

The infant in the stroller reportedly is in “critical condition” at a local hospital.

The sheriff’s statement also says the driver and the lone passenger in the vehicle were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office statement says there is no indication of foul play but an investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information should contact detectives at (708) 765-4896.

As of Monday, the sheriff’s office had no update the child’s condition or the investigation.

Village of Winnetka officials did not immediately return a message from The Record. Anthony Gomez with the sheriff’s office confirmed that the site of the crash is in unincorporated Cook County.
