Juvenile detained after more gunfire on Highwood’s Grove Avenue
Highwood police received a 911 call on Tuesday night that a man had a gun in the 300 block of Grove Avenue, the same block where 11 gunshots were fired on June 22.
Police reportedly responded around 10:30 p.m. to the scene, took a juvenile into custody and recovered a handgun.
No one reportedly was shot, and police believe the shooting was targeted; though it remains unclear what that target was.
The number of gunshots fired is “unknown,” Police Chief Dave Wentz said in an email, while neighbors on Wednesday, July 15, told The Record that they heard a couple of gunshots.
Police believe the shooting may be related to the June 22 shooting on the same block, after which two juveniles were taken into custody.
“Police are investigating if the individuals of those detained are connected to both shootings, the one on June 22 and the one on July 14,” City Manager of Highwood Scott Coren said. “We are working closely with our partners to come to a resolution.”
The investigation remains open, police say.
