A person and a dog were found dead near railroad tracks in Glencoe on Saturday morning after a Metra train struck the two, the Glencoe Public Safety Department said in a statement.
The medical examiner identified the deceased pedestrian as a Glencoe resident.
The department responded to a pedestrian-versus-train collision on the Union Pacific North Railroad line near Green Bay Road and Maple Hill Road, at 9:35 a.m., according to a news release from the village.
On scene, officers reportedly located a dead female pedestrian and a dead dog.
An initial investigation indicated the pedestrian was headed west when she crossed the railroad tracks, Glencoe Public Safety said. A southbound Metra train then went through the crossing, Glencoe Public Safety said.
Railroad and vehicle traffic was temporarily stopped in the area during the investigation but reopened midday Saturday.
The incident remains under investigation by the Metra Police Department and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
