One arrested, others on lam after car tied to robbery crashes in Highland Park

At least one person was arrested Tuesday evening after a vehicle reportedly linked to a robbery in Wisconsin crashed in Highland Park.

Two male subjects approached an ATM at a bank in Cedarburg — a small city just north of Milwaukee — and stole a bag of money a vendor was loading into the machine around 1:25 a.m., the Cedarburg Police Department said in a news release

The individuals reportedly did not display a weapon or physically harm the vendor when they stole the unknown amount of money and fled. Police said they then located a vehicle connected to the robbery abandoned in the adjacent Wisconsin city of Grafton before identifying a second suspect vehicle.

The Lake Forest Police Department spotted that second suspect vehicle and attempted to stop it, Cedarburg police said.

Lake Forest police then notified the Highland Park Police Department that a vehicle linked to a robbery had entered their jurisdiction. Highland Park police responded to the area of Clavey and Skokie Valley road around 5:26 p.m. for a report of a car crash, according to a City of Highland Park news release

Up to four individuals — though, police say, eyewitness accounts were conflicting — fled the crash on foot. Highland Park police and neighboring jurisdictions began searching for individuals before arresting one person around 6:13 p.m. whom investigators determined to be the driver, according to the City of Highland Park.

Police reportedly used drones and K-9s in their search, but both Cedarburg and Highland Park had released no further information as of Wednesday morning regarding the location of the other vehicle occupants.

No weapons related to the incident were found near the crash site and while “images purporting to show the suspects are circulating on social media,” the City of Highland Park said it has not received confirmed descriptions of the suspects and cannot provide descriptions or images at this time.

Highland Park police will continue patrolling the community and residents are encouraged to call 911 in the event of threatening or suspicious behavior as the investigation continues.
