Glencoe Golf clubhouse comes down; groundbreaking for new one set for May 19
It’s the season of rebirth, and the Glencoe Golf Club is playing along.
The club’s century-old clubhouse came down over the past week, and plans are in place for a May 19 ceremonial groundbreaking on new facilities that will include a year-round sports bar.
Glencoe voters supported the $18 million project via referendum in 2023 to get things started. The Friends of the Glencoe Golf Club are raising further funding to supplement the $15 million coming from taxpayers. An update on the fundraising reportedly will be announced at the groundbreaking on Monday, May 19.
A disagreement between the Village of Glencoe and Cook County (now mended) delayed the project’s timeline, which originally hoped for demolition in late 2024.
Officials estimate the project will take a full year with the new facilities ready by the summer of 2026.
The new clubhouse and restaurant were designed by FGMArchitects and will include a central fireplace, indoor dining room, outdoor terrace, pro shop, event space, and the restaurant, which officials call the first sports bar in Glencoe.
“The clubhouse will provide an upscale dining experience, casual offerings for the entire family, and meals for golfers on the move,” says a press release from the Friends of the Glencoe Golf Club.
Additions to the outdoor site, which covers 126 acres, include a croquet court, short-game practice area, event lawn, sustainable gardens, bicycle repair station, new parking, and winter-recreation areas.
The golf course is open during the construction.
The groundbreaking festivities begin at 9:30 a.m. on May 19 at the course, 621 Westley Road.
