Winnetka 36 School Board fills spot following resignation

A new member has joined the Winnetka Public Schools Board of Education.

The board on April 22 confirmed the appointment of Jackie McLaughlin to fulfill the remaining term of Katherine Myers-Crum, who was elected in 2023 and resigned in March.

McLaughlin was selected from a field of 12 candidates, seven of whom were interviewed in person, according to School Board President Dan Waters, who said on April 22 that the size of the field was “really good news for the community in terms of engagement.”

According to Waters’ message to the community, McLaughlin is an attorney who most recently was the chief legal officer for UL Solutions. She also holds an accounting degree. McLaughlin serves on the boards of the Metropolitan Family Services and the YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago and is a parent in the Hubbard Woods district.

Waters praised McLaughlin’s board and financial experience

“Certainly I and a majority of board is confident that, given the opportunities and the challenges we are going to face, we selected a board member that is going to be able to effectively contribute and contribute immediately,” Waters said during April 22’s public meeting.

McLaughlin is replacing Myers-Crum, who resigned in the wake of an incident on a school bus in which she reportedly addressed a student.
