Police investigating string of overnight business burglaries in Highland Park
At least nine Highland Park businesses were burglarized early Friday morning, according to a community alert from the City of Highland Park.
The offenders reportedly broke windows or doors to gain entry and sought cash at each location, spending between 30 seconds to a minute at each business.
Six of the affected businesses, including Michael’s Grill and Salad Bar, are located in downtown Highland Park, while the other three, including Hearing Health Center, are along Skokie Valley Road just north of Lake-Cook Road.
Michael’s posted about the incident on Instagram, writing that the restaurant will be open on Friday:
“Now more than ever, let’s come together as a community to show our support. Shop local, dine out, and help our businesses recover. Michael’s will be OPEN today — stop by and show your love!” the post reads.
In the alert, the City says its investigation has revealed a group of five individuals utilizing one car is responsible for the burglaries, all of which occurred over a span of approximately 30 minutes beginning just after 3 a.m.
According to the City, the crimes “follow the same pattern” as other recent burglaries in and around the North Shore. No other burglaries were cited in the alert.
Highland Park police reportedly are in contact with the victimized businesses as well as regional law enforcement agencies.
