Loyola celebrates most-recent college commitments from student-athletes

Sixteen Ramblers earned recognition from their school during a signing-day ceremony on Feb. 7.

The Loyola Academy ceremony honored student-athletes across seven sports.

Leading the way were eight signees from the Ramblers state championship football team, including six from Loyola’s stout defensive unit. They are: Michael Baker, University of Mississippi; Kyle Baltazar, Army West Point; Ethan Hogg, University of Connecticut; Joe Kelly, Colgate University; Kenny Langston, Colgate University; Jimmy McGovern, University of Wisconsin Eau Claire; Jack McGrath, Eastern Kentucky University; and Colin Scheid, Amherst College.

Matt Stanislavsky (Lewis and Clark College) and Justin Vera-Medina (Quincy University) will continue their baseball pursuits. Basketball players Paige Engels (Cornell University) and Abby Walsh (Bates College) were celebrated during the ceremony, as were rower Hailey Castelar (Drake University), golfer Gigi Zera (Illinois Wesleyan University), swimmer Zizi Mateja (Butler University) and distance runner Kathryn San Roman (Calvin University.

In November, 14 Ramblers and dozens of Trevians were honored during the fall signing period. New Trier, and other schools, typically host a final signing celebration in May.
