Highland Park, Elections

Three Highland Park polling sites will stay open until 8:35 p.m.

An incident on Tuesday involving a firearm at Highland Park High School had plenty of consequences, including a lockdown of the school and public buildings throughout the area.

Because of the 95-minute disruptions on Election Day, a trio of Highland Park polling places that were locked down will remain open an additional 95 minutes, according to a release from the Lake County Clerk’s Office.

The ballot boxes at Braeside Elementary School, 150 Pierce Road, Red Oak Elementary School, 530 Red Oak Lane, and Highland Park Public Library, 494 Laurel Ave., will stay open until 8:35 p.m.

“I am immensely thankful for the quick action of our local law enforcement, the City of Highland Park, Township High School District 113 and North Shore School District 112 regarding today’s incident at Highland Park High School that put three of our polling sites on lockdown,” Clerk Anthony Vega said in. statement.

He added, “Election results will not begin to publicly upload until after 8:35 p.m. when all polling sites are closed.”

Highland Park voters are deciding one contested election, the race for Highland Park City Council, in which five candidates are vying for three seats.
