Athlete of the Week: 10 questions with Clare Weasler, Loyola basketball

Clare Weasler, of Glenview, is a senior, four-year varsity guard for the Ramblers. Weasler was one of three Ramblers named to the New Trier-Loyola Thanksgiving All-Tournament team.

1. Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?

Before every game, me and Marycait Mackie take a photo. We’ve been doing it since freshman year.

2. What are your plans for next year?

I’m not playing basketball in college. I’ve applied to a few schools and am looking to do marketing and go to a Big Ten or SEC schools. I just really like the feel of a big school, like Wisconsin or South Carolina, with the sports environment and all that.

3. What is your dream job?

I’ve always been into real estate, so maybe a real estate agent or something under that bracket. My family has moved a few times and I’ve always been interested in looking and going into houses and seeing everything about it. I think it would be a fun, good job for me.

4. What is your favorite thing to do off the court?

I really like watching movies with my mom. We are really into that.

5. What is your favorite movie?

I’m really into rom-coms, so right now, “The Holiday,” because it’s the season.

6. If you could try another sport, what would it be?

My whole life I played soccer, up until seventh grade. I like that it’s outside, which is different than basketball. It’s a great team sport and great for conditioning. It’s fun.

7. When did you know you were a basketball player?

I think basketbaall is a lot more fast paced than soccer. I played feeder and AAU growing up and really fell in love with the game.

8. If you’re in Walgreens with a couple bucks, what are you buying?

I’m buying Airhead Xtremes bites, that’s my favorite candy, and dragonfruit Vitamin Water.

9. What is something people don’t know about you?

This is a really random fun fact, but I can do an over-a-minute handstand. Maybe two years ago I figured out I could do it. Every time I do it, people are really confused.

10. What is the key to this team’s success this year?

The key to this season is living in the gym, like we’ve been doing. We have two-hour practices and there are several players who stay late and keep playing. Our defense is great and when our shots start falling, that’s when we’ll get going in right direction. I think we’re heading in the right direction; we just need to keep living in the gym and having each others’ backs.
