Apply for Highland Park Jr. Police Academy

Registration has opened for the City of Highland Park Junior Police Academy, which returns in August.

The program is open to any student enrolled in a North Shore District 112 school 9 years of age or older or any Highland Park/Highwood resident aged 9-14.

This year, the program runs 8:30 a.m.-noon from Aug. 3-7 at the Highland Park Police Department.

The week-long program, according to the City, will expose participants to different aspects of law enforcement, with a focus on the “why” rather than the “how.”

“The program incorporates decision-making skills into all topics, with a focus on developing positive moral character. Emphasis will be placed on each child’s role in maintaining the quality of our community,” the City says.

Topics include: K9 presentations, crime scene evidence, traffic stops and fingerprinting.

Graduates will receive a Junior Police Academy T-shirt and diploma.

Registration is open. For more information, contact Officer Teresa Stadler at 847-926-1122 or tstadler@cityhpil.com.
