8th man charged in Winnetka home invasion conspiracy

Authorities arrested and charged an eighth man in relation to a Winnetka home invasion in March, according to an announcement on Wednesday from U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of Illinois.

According to the attorney’s office, Andrew Franklin, 19, of Chicago, was one of five armed men who entered the home in the 700 block of Rosewood Avenue on March 8 and held a resident and a child hostage. He reportedly was arrested on June 3 and subsequently charged with kidnapping and robbery.

Seven other men previously were arrested and charged in connection to the crime, including Isaiah Dukes, 28, also known as Chicago rapper Lil Zayy Osam.

As previously reported on by The Record, five armed men burst into a Winnetka home on a Sunday evening in March after one of the men posed as a food delivery driver. A resident reportedly was held at gunpoint for more than an hour as the defendants demanded “specific items,” such as access to a safe, computer and online accounts holding cryptocurrency.

A child arrived home during the crime and was also restrained, according to a federal criminal complaint.

The resident and child reportedly escaped the ordeal without physical injuries, while the defendants allegedly made away with at least $111,000 worth of cryptocurrency, cash and other property, the complaint says.

Other defendants are Dashun Brown, 24, of Chicago; David Franklin, 24, of Chicago; Anthony Ramsey, 22, of Chicago; Khiell Dukes, 30, of Elgin; Jalen Chambers, 24, of Bourbonnais; and Tyrese Fenton-Watson, 23, of Chicago.

Kidnapping conspiracy is punishable with a life sentence, and robbery conspiracy is punishable by up to 20 years.
