The Capital Grille is leaving Old Orchard mall this weekend
The Capital Grille is on its way out of Westfield Old Orchard Mall.
Leah Santiago, a communications manager for the high-end steakhouse chain, confirmed in an email to The Record that the restaurant’s last day of business at 4999 Old Orchard Shopping Center in Skokie will be this Sunday, May 31.
“Closing this restaurant is a difficult business decision, and it’s one we made very carefully and thoughtfully, particularly because it impacts our team members and our guests,” Santiago wrote.
“In no way does this reflect on the quality of our team members’ work, and we’re doing everything we can to help every team member find a new job.”
The Capital Grille offers “dry-aged steaks, fresh seafood, and acclaimed world-class wines” according to the company’s website.
The chain reportedly has 80 branches across the country and its other Chicagoland locations are in Rosemont, Schaumburg, Lombard and downtown Chicago.
The Capital Grille is owned by the Darden family, which is the parent company of other brands like Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse and operates more than 1,600 restaurants in total, according to the company’s website.
The Capital Grille first opened in Skokie in March 2023, said Lauren Kelly Koch, a spokesperson for Westfield Old Orchard’s public relations company, via email.
Asked what may replace The Capital Grille at its Old Orchard location, Koch said “we don’t have anything additional to share at this time.”
The more than 9,000-square-foot restaurant boasted two floors of dining space, a lounge and private events space, NBC 5 Chicago previously reported. It will be open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, its final day.
