Man arrested within 20 minutes after using note to rob Highland Park bank
A man was arrested last week on the same day he reportedly robbed a bank in Highland Park.
Officers received a call reporting a robbery around 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, April 14, at Chase Bank, 255 Skokie Valley Road, according to the City of Highland Park.
A male offender reportedly passed a note to a bank teller demanding cash, received money, placed it in his backpack and fled the scene. After the man left, the teller contacted the police, the city says.
Using a description of the man, according to the city, officers reportedly found him walking near the Shell gas station at 10 Skokie Valley Road. The man reportedly admitted to police that he passed the note to the Chase Bank teller and money was recovered from his backpack.
Highland Park police arrested the man at 3:21 p.m. April 14 before transferring him to the FBI, the city says, adding that its investigation showed the man acted alone and “had no connection to Highland Park.”
Further information was not immediately available.
“This successful resolution was made possible by the calm handling of the situation, quick reporting of the crime and the outstanding investigation by Highland Park police officers,” according to a City statement. “The City also appreciates the partnership and support of neighboring law enforcement agencies and the FBI.”
