Body found along Highland Park shoreline; identity still undetermined
Local authorities are investigating after recovering the body of a man in Lake Michigan on Friday near Openlands Lakeshore Preserve in Highland Park.
The Lake County Forest Preserve and Highland Park officers responded around 6 p.m. Friday, April 17, to a report of a possible body, which was located floating in shallow water at the preserve in Fort Sheridan, 10 Cliff Road, said Ron Davis, director of Public Safety at Lake County Forest Preserves, in an email.
Davis said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The news was first reported by Lake & McHenry County Scanner.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Lake County Corner’s Office said an autopsy on Monday revealed the man’s death “is consistent with drowning”; however, “despite multiple scientific attempts,” the man’s identity could not be determined.
He is described as 5 foot 3 inches tall and approximately 140 pounds, in his late 50s to early 70s with grey hair. He was wearing light blue shorts, a green hat, Nike gym shoes, a white metal ring and a watch, the release says.
The incident remains under investigation, Davis said, and anyone with information about the deceased man is asked to contact the Lake County Coroner’s Office at 847-377-2200 or the Lake County Forest Preserve Police Department at 847-968-3404.
