Wilmette Parks commissioner resigns, citing move out of town

The Wilmette Park Board will be a commissioner short starting next week.

Kara Kosloskus, who was elected to her second Park Board term in April, will officially resign on Monday, Aug. 11; though, she publicly announced her intentions to resign at the board’s committee of the whole session on July 28.

Kosloskus told The Record that her family is moving out of Wilmette, prompting the resignation. She did not immediately provide further comment.

First elected in 2021, Kosloskus spent two years as the Park Board president (2023-’25) until recently passing the gavel to Patrick Lahey. She was reelected to the board in April along with fellow incumbents Patrick Duffy and Allison Frazier, as the trio handily defeated challengers Anastasia Royal, Paul McKinley and Nancy Johnson.

Following the most-recent Park Board resignation (Todd Shissler in 2021), approximately two months passed before the seat was filled. During that process, seven Wilmette residents applied for the vacancy, and Lindsey Anderson was chosen to fill it.

A similar timeline is detailed in the Park Board’s documents for Monday, Aug. 11’s meeting. A memo from Lahey projects that applications will be accepted until early September. From there, the board hopes to select and interview finalists through September, provide a public update on Sept. 28 and swear in a new commissioner on Oct. 12.

A proposed Park Board proclamation commemorates Kosloskus’ contributions in a number of district projects and in part says that Kosloskus “has been very responsive to the citizens of Wilmette with regard to their desires and concerns pertaining to park district projects and has selflessly served to provide remarkable park district facilities and programs to the community.”
