Athlete of the Week: 10 questions with Trinity Andelin, New Trier softball

Trinity Andelin is a senior pitcher and third baseman for the Trevians. She is attending Bridgewater State University next year.

1. Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?

One big thing is my hair. It’s gotta be up and out of my face, and I need it to be really tight because I have a lot of fly-aways.

2. Why is Bridgewater State a good fit for you?

It’s a smaller college, and its main focus is education so that was a big push for me. It has a lot of classes and programs centered around education. And the fact that it is up near Boston and there are a lot of schools up there that play softball. I hope to walk on to play softball there.

3. What is your dream job?

I’d probably be an artist. I really enjoy art. It’d be such a freeing thing to be able to do it without having to worry about money, be your own boss, set your own goals not centered on money. I just really like the creative aspect of being an artist.

4. When did softball get real for you?

It’s the only sport I’ve ever played. I think it actually got real for me when I was in maybe like eighth grade. I’ve jumped around on a lot of different teams. I used to live in Missouri … and found team I really loved called 643 that made me realize how much I really loved softball. When I moved here, I really continued that and it became a really big part of my life because of the people and team.

5. If you could try another sport, what would it be?

I don’t know. I would want to be good at basketball but don’t think I could be. But it’s something I’d want to be good at. Being a good basketball player requires a lot of agility and being fast and always on, always running and being aware of everyone on court. I think it would be really cool to be a part of that.

6. What is your top softball moment so far?

Last year for New Trier, both me and my sister hit home runs on teacher appreciation day. Or it could even be when — I also play travel with my sister — when we got on the same team together, I think was a really big moment.

7. What’s your favorite TV show right now?

I don’t know about right now, but I was really into “New Girl” for a while. … It’s so funny and quirky and I just loved watching it.

8. If you are in Walgreens with a couple bucks, what are you buying?

I think I’m gonna buy a bag of salt and vinegar chips and some Reese’s cups.

9. What is something people don’t know about you?

I have a lot of different hobbies. I’m really into softball and really into sports but also I really like art and reading, English. I think I am a pretty versatile person. I have a lot of hobbies.

10. How do you hope this team finishes the season?

I hope to go out strong of course. But just having a really good positive attitude and being hype all the time. And what I want is to have that positive, passionate energy throughout the season, having a good fight every day.
