New Trier boys golf will return to state finals; NSCD boys too, while Trevians Leber will represent girls squad
The Trevians have their chance at a three-peat.
New Trier boys golf is headed back to the state finals after a second-place finish at the IHSA Class 3 Glenbrook North Sectional on Monday, Oct. 7, at Heritage Oaks in Northbrook.
Senior Boden Rice finished third overall with a one-under-par 69, two strokes behind sectional champ Kevin Schuh of Glenbrook South and a stroke back of runnerup Lester Low of Evanston.
New Trier’s Peter Conkey (70) was right behind Rice to place fourth, while Elias Weidemanis (73) finished ninth, and Logan Keeter (75) also contributed to the Trevians’ final score of 287. The Wildkits took the sectional title at 282 strokes.
The Trevians are defending two straight state championships and have 10 in their program’s history. They will look to add to those totals Oct. 18-19 at the IHSA 3A finals on The Den at Fox Creek Golf Course in Bloomington.
Loyola Academy’s golfers just missed the cut, which was set at 74. Ben Rieske shot a 75 and Charlie Kasten, Drew Southwell and Seamus Purcell 77s for the Ramblers.
In a 1A sectional in Bismarck, North Shore Country Day punched a team ticket to state as the sectional runnerup, finishing one stroke back of Beecher. Jonathan Wiggins (75) and Nolan Darnieder (76) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, to lead the Raiders.
In a 2A girls sectional, New Trier junior Grace Leber recorded a two-under 69 to claim fourth place at Bonnie Dundee in Barrington and earn an individual bid to the state finals.
The Trevians, however, missed qualifying as a team, despite firing a season-best score of 304 to place fifth. Kendall Humphries-Solis (77), Molly Tir (79) and Sophie Patel (79) all finished in the top 30 for New Trier.
The top-three team finishers, and automatic state qualifiers, were Glenbrook North (285), Barrington 288) and Stevenson (296).
