Highland Park man, 50, dies following moped accident
A local man was killed last Thursday after the moped he was driving crashed in Highland Park.
The City of Highland Park reported that on June 22 the man — later identified as Dan Gordon, 50, of Highland Park, by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office — lost control of his vehicle on Deerfield Road near Route 41, driving off the road and crashing the moped.
Gordon was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead that same day. His death was caused by multiple injuries from the crash, according to a medical examiner spokesperson.
The incident remains under investigation by the Highland Park Police Department and Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team
An obituary for Gordon says a funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 27, at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home in Wilmette.
“We all love Dan so very much and we will hold him in our hearts forever,” the obituary reads. “He was full of life and cherished every experience. The small stuff. The big holidays and celebrations. He loved it all and made the best of every moment.”
According to the obit, Gordon “was a beloved partner to Susan Plumer, former husband to Jill Gordon, son to Larry and Margie Gordon, grandson to Arthur (Jean) Gordon and Albert (Myrtle) Davis, brother to Joe and Andy (JoAnn), dad to Jack, Lucy, and Olivia, father figure to Amelie, nephew to Jim (Marilyn), Jerry (Michelle), and Susie (Erv), cousin to Carolyn, Julie (Brian), Steve, Jon (Pam), Rian (Jeremy), Marc (Beth), and Abby, and dear friend to everyone he ever met.”
Gordon was a graduate of New Trier East High School, according to his social media accounts. He reportedly was a longtime food-service professional before founding his own insurance firm in recent years.
