No reported injuries after shots fired on Edens near Highland Park

Highland Park police responded Friday morning to a report of gunshots on the Edens Expressway near the transition to Route 41.

A preliminary investigation determined that no one was shot or seriously injured in the incident, according to the City of Highland Park.

Police reportedly received a call at 10:12 a.m. on Oct. 2 from a 60-year-old man who heard gunshots from a passing vehicle and observed damage to his vehicle, according to the City.

The exact location and circumstances of the reported incident remain under investigation.

The driver who reported the shots reportedly filed a police report including the license plate number and description of the vehicle he suspected was involved.

According to the City, the vehicle of interest left the area and investigators are searching for a “dark blue Acura MDX” with a license plate number of “FF68243.”

The driver who reported the shots reportedly was evaluated for minor injuries on the scene before being released without further treatment, the City confirmed.

City Communications Manager Amanda Bennett said because the driver was able to safely drive away from the scene before contacting police, investigators believe the incident occurred south of Tower Road, which is not in Highland Park but near Northbrook and Glencoe.

The Illinois State Police is in charge of the investigation, said Amanda Bennett, the City of Highland Park’s communications manager.

State police did not have any additional updates as of press time.
