After three years, Loughran steps down as Glencoe’s public safety director

Glencoe’s top first responder, Sean Loughran, resigned from his post earlier this month, citing “family obligations,” according to the Village of Glencoe.

Loughran was hired away from the Chicago Police Department in October 2023 to be the director of the Glencoe Public Safety Department, which encompasses the police department, fire department and emergency medical services. He replaced Cory Lewandowski, who was with Glencoe Public Safety for 10 years.

Loughran’s final day was Sept. 22, and Deputy Public Safety Chief Andy Perley is the interim public safety director. Perley, who has been with the Village since 2008, served in the same capacity immediately prior to Loughran’s tenure.

The Record was unable to reach Loughran via press time and he did not provide a statement in the Village of Glencoe’s media release.

In the release, Village Manager Phil Kiraly said, “We sincerely thank Sean for his service to Glencoe and his contributions to the Public Safety Department, and we wish him well. Our focus is on supporting our excellent Public Safety team and continuing to provide the important services our community relies on every day.”

While with Glencoe, Loughran, the release says, helped streamline recruitment and hiring, expanded safety and security coordination with Glencoe School District 35 and other local institutions, developed and supported mental health support programs for officers, and helped establish the Glencoe Public Safety Foundation.

“We sincerely thank Sean for his service to Glencoe and his contributions to the Public Safety Department, and we wish him well,” said Kiraly. “Our focus is on supporting our excellent Public Safety team and continuing to provide the important services our community relies on every day.”
