9 appointed to Glencoe Lakefront Parking Task Force
The members of Glencoe’s Lakefront Parking Task Force have been selected and will begin addressing parking concerns in the area of Glencoe Beach and Lakefront Park.
The Glencoe Village Board named and unanimously approved on Aug. 19 the nine residents who will serve on the board.
As previously reported by The Record, for around a year, Glencoe officials have been receiving complaints from residents about parking, littering and disruptive behavior.
While the Village Board, in the spring approved a series of zoning code changes meant to address the concerns, neighboring residents packed the council chambers and demanded that more be done.
Seeing the response, Village President Howard Roin said at the Aug. 19 meeting that the Village Board and Glencoe Park District decided to form a Lakefront Parking Task Force “to look into what are the facts and what should we do, if anything, to fix any problems that are there.”
Roin said 25 residents applied to be on the task force, which he called “a terrific response,” noting that all the applicants were “very well qualified.”
Those 25 were narrowed down to nine, with Roin saying the Village Board and Park Board decided to select three residents who live in west Glencoe, three who live in the central part of the village, and three who live near the beach.
The nine residents are Stefanie Boron, Julianna Ethell, Lee Feder, Aaron Goltz, Michael LaPorte, Andre Lerman, James Rosenfield, Jon Ruderman and Maggie Shapack.
Additionally, Roin said the task force will feature a nonvoting youth member, Luca Cacela.
The task force will reportedly be co-chaired by a village trustee and a park commissioner.
According to a memo in the board packet, the task force’s first meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Takiff Center. Members are also expected to meet in October, November and December.
