Man struck by train in Highwood has died
A 23-year-old man died two days after a train struck him on Thursday in Highwood, according to the Cook County medical examiner.
The man’s name has not been released. Metra previously reported that while the man has been identified, authorities have not located any of the man’s family.
The man was struck at approximately 1:40 a.m. Thursday, April 9, on elevated tracks near Bloom Street and Green Bay Road in Highwood, news first reported by Lake and McHenry County Scanner. He was transported to Evanston Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Metra said, and he died at 2:36 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, according to the medical examiner.
The location of the incident is a noncrossing location that is about half a mile south of the Highwood station.
The involved Metra train was the final run of the night on Metra’s UP North line, and service was restored by 3:45 a.m., Thomas-Reile said.
Metra is investigating the incident and reportedly are reviewing any available footage.
A Metra spokesperson said, “Train tracks are never a shortcut or a safe path to walk.”
