Record’s red-hot fundraiser is back for seconds
The burn returns May 18.
Record supporters proved last year that they could handle the heat, so The Record and Pit & Tap are bringing back Heat Check, a fundraiser inspired by the hit show “Hot Ones,” on Monday, May 18, at Pit & Tap, 1168 Wilmette Ave., Wilmette.
Like “Hot Ones,” each participant will receive 10 chicken wings, each covered in a unique hot sauce that is hotter than the one before it. Try all 10 and you’ve conquered the challenge.
Tickets are available now with all proceeds supporting responsible, independent community reporting from The Record. Space and supplies are limited so lock in an individual spot ($100) or grab a group and book a four-person table ($350) for a fiery night in downtown Wilmette. We will open Pit & Tap (typically closed on Mondays) for the special occasion.

The inaugural Heat Check was a undeniable success, said Joe Coughlin, The Record‘s editor in chief. Nearly 50 people conquered the “Hot Ones” challenge (making it through all 10 sauces) and dozens cheered them on in a jam packed Pit & Tap.
“Last year’s event blew us away,” Coughlin said. “Your support, the energy, the vibes — all incredible. We’re still riding high. Let’s do it again.”
Once again, George Rafeedie, board president of The Record, will emcee the event with help from Pit & Tap’s Michael Clarke, Coughlin and Record Director of Development Ryan Osborn.
To help you keep your cool, The Record will auction off helpings of water, milk, ranch dressing and ice cream, while also offering other surprises.
A limited number of people can take the hot-sauce challenge; however, spectators are welcome to stop by and witness the devastation as your neighbors try to beat the heat. A limited food menu, including wings, and a full bar will be available to all guests.

The event is the fourth annual collaboration between The Record and Pit & Tap, a committed supporter of building community and community news.
