News Briefs: Pritzker visits Soul Good; Post office closure ongoing; Regina’s Illinois State Scholars
Soul Good Coffee in Skokie was one of 47 recipients of a small-business grant from the state of Illinois.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker visited the coffee shop on Friday, Nov. 21, to issue congratulations and tout the Small Business Capital and Infrastructure Grant Program.
Soul Good transitioned from a popular pop-up business to a brick-and-mortar shop this year and will receive just over $100,000 for the buildout from the program.

Wilmette Post Office closure ongoing
As of Nov. 24, the U.S. Postal Service still had no timeline for the reopening of its Wilmette branch.
A ceiling collapse on Nov. 17 has forced the shutdown of the Wilmette Post Office with operations temporarily shifting to the Winnetka branch, 512 Chestnut St., and normal street delivery is unaffected.
According to the USPS, access to Wilmette PO Boxes is available at the Kenilworth location, 408 Green Bay Road.
The Village of Wilmette reported last week that repairs to the Wilmette locations are underway.
13 Regina Dominican seniors are Illinois State Scholars
Regina Dominican High School in Wilmette recently announced that 13 seniors are Illinois State Scholars, a state program that recognizes students who demonstrate superior academic potential.
The honor is based on a combination of ACT or SAT scores and sixth-semester academic performance, including unweighted class rank and gpa.
“We are so proud of the achievement of these Panthers, and congratulate them on this major academic accomplishment,” Regina Dominican Principal Dr. Kassie Porreca said in a statement. “Their hard work and commitment to academic excellence shines through brightly, and they earned this honor over years of commitment to their own learning.”
The Regina awardees are: Lorelai Arends, Norie Balbarin, Natalia Cerrado, Rowan Dailey, Joymarie Giyo, Caroline Golden, Aleena Khan,Madeleine McGuire, Madelyn McNamara, Carina Montoya, Mary Grace Schafer, Mara Swabb and Sofia Ujiki.
