News Briefs: Hometown opens 4th cafe; 2nd property-tax bills finally en route; New Trier club’s special guest

Glencoe-based Hometown Coffee and Juice has opened a new location — its fourth — in Glenview.

Hometown debuted in 2018 at 700 Vernon Ave. in Glencoe with a menu of coffees, hand-pressed juices, pastries, and breakfast and lunch plates. Finding quick success, the Rubins soon added an adjacent storefront to grow their space.

The Rubins decided to open a second store in 2021 in Winnetka, taking multiple storefronts at the northeast corner of Lincoln Avenue and Elm Street.

Lake Forest was next in 2022.

Along with the newest cafe, located at 1127 Depot St. in Glenview, Hometown has welcomed a director of culinary operations in Daniel Huebschmann.

According to a release from Hometown, “Huebschmann’s expertise will further elevate Hometown’s culinary program, supporting its mission to deliver a consistently superior guest experience across all current and future locations.”

Hometown is open 7 a.m.-5 p.m. five days a week.

Property tax bills coming Nov. 14

After a significant delay, the second installment of Cook County 2024 property-tax bills will be mailed on Friday, Nov. 14, according to the county.

The bills are due Dec. 15.

The county has blamed a technology upgrade for the delay, saying the improvements “had an impact on the property tax processes and timelines.”

Typically, and under Illinois law, the second installment of the bills are supposed to be issued by July 1 with an Aug. 1 due date.

New Trier Township residents with questions about their bills can contact Township Assessor Jan Churchwell at jchurchwell@newtriertownship.com.

Big-league guest of New Trier

Alex Sugarman, of the Chicago Cubs front office, visits New Trier High School students.

New Trier High School’s sports analytics club welcomed a special visitor this school year.

Alex Sugarman, the Chicago Cubs executive vice president of business operations, stopped by for a question-and-answer session.

According to the school, Sugarman oversees everything from ballpark operations and events to facility management, safety, and strategic planning and shared his career journey with the students.
