News Briefs: Glencoe Golf restaurant; Porch Light Night; Regina’s Commended Students

The name of the Glencoe Golf Club restaurant will be The Westley.

The restaurant is a product of Clubhouse Group, a hospitality group approved earlier this year to provide dining services at the new Glencoe Golf clubhouse.

The Village of Glencoe said in its weekly newsletter that The Westley will be opening soon, and a clubhouse grand opening celebration is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23.

The Westley reportedly will serve classic and fine American fare, local draft beers, fine wines and signature cocktails. The restaurant is currently hiring and interested parties are encouraged to send a resume and position of interest to Clubhousegoup@glencoegolfclub.com.

Porch Light Night on Monday, Oct. 5

Kenilworth Community Fund volunteers will take to the streets on Monday, Oct. 5, for the organization’s annual tradition, Porch Light Night, a program “to allow neighbors to help neighbors,” according to the community fund.

The Kenilworth Community Fund raises funds to support local charities that serve the North Shore. Porch Light Night is an 87-year-old tradition and the group’s largest and most important fundraiser. On Monday evening, community fund volunteers will visit every home in town to request donations.

The Kenilworth Community Fund supports much more than just Kenilworth-based organizations (like the Village’s Beach Project, the park district and Scouts), the organization has a “large focus on mental health especially teen mental health.”

In a statement, the fund said, “The teens growing up in our Village face high expectations, whether through teachers, parents, or friends on Social Media. We feel it’s important to support various organizations which help teens cope with these issues.”

Regina Dominican High School seniors Catherine Conway and Kourtney Schuenzel have been named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program, according to an announcement from the Wilmette school.

The Regina Dominican community celebrated the achievements with an all-school morning meeting on Sept. 30, when students, faculty, and staff gathered to recognize the seniors for the prestigious academic honor.

Commended Students are recognized for their exceptional academic promise based on their performance on the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Approximately 34,000 students nationwide are named Commended Students each year.

“Catherine and Kourtney represent so much of what we value at Regina Dominican,” Principal Dr. Kassie Porreca said in the release. “They are accomplished scholars who bring curiosity, determination, and a commitment to excellence to our community. It was especially meaningful to celebrate them together as a school, surrounded by the teachers and classmates who have supported and encouraged them along the way.”
