Wilmette’s and Highland Park’s fireworks shows and July 3 celebrations are no longer happening, courtesy of Mother Nature.
Forecasted storms Friday night led the City of Highland Park to postpone its Independence Fest, which planned to end with fireworks for the first time since 2021, to an undetermined date.
”The City will announce the rescheduled fireworks display once a new date has been confirmed,” a notice from the city reads.
Wilmette’s flagship summer event, Fun and Fireworks, is canceled with no makeup date planned as of press time.
In a notice to the community, the park district wrote:
”The safety of our guests, staff, volunteers, entertainers, and vendors is always our top priority. Unfortunately, the weather is not expected to improve enough to safely hold the event.
“We know this is disappointing, and we appreciate the community’s understanding.”
Glencoe’s Party in the Park is still on as of press time.
Also, local Fourth of July events scheduled for Saturday were still on as of 4:45 p.m.
