News Briefs: Art in the Village incoming; WOW swim race on Saturday; Beach pass agreement

The North Shore Art League’s annual Art in the Village is coming to Hubbard Woods Park in Winnetka from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, June 13-14.

The juried art show and exhibition will feature work from more than 70 artists from across the country showcasing everything from oil paintings to mixed media and photography to sculpture and more.

Additionally, on both days, art league faculty member and portrait artist Lisa DePinto will be on-site to paint quick oil portraits.

This year’s silent auction will feature artwork donated from participating artists. In addition, a raffle will include donated prizes from local businesses.

Spots open for 8th Wilmette Open Water race on Saturday

Hundreds of swimmers from across the Chicago area and beyond are expected to visit Wilmette’s lakefront on Saturday, June 13, for the eighth annual Wilmette Open Water swim race, which starts at 7 a.m.

This growing local tradition “combines swimming competition, community and one of the Midwest’s most scenic swim venues,” Gillson Beach, according to a press release from the organization.

The WOW race is open to swimmers of all ages and experience levels for a one-mile race along the Lake Michigan shoreline. To

The Ouilmette Foundation hosts the event, raising funds for the parks-supporting foundation and its campaign to preserve the Wallace Bowl in Gillson Park.

The release says that event Co-Directors Phil Andrew and Holly Gilson “founded WOW to promote the well-being and joy of the people and the parks.”

“It’s a collaborative undertaking with the Wilmette Park District and celebrates this amazing resource in our Great Lakes and community,” Andrew said in a statement.


Kenilworth residents can get access to Wilmette beach passes

Because of ongoing construction at Kenilworth Beach, the Village of Kenilworth has partnered with the Wilmette Park District to offer Kenilworth residents access to Wilmette Beaches through June 30.

According to the Village of Kenilworth, residents must provide proof of residency and pay $60 in person at the Wilmette Park District office, 1200 Wilmette Ave., for a pass that is valid through June 30 and provides access to Gillson Park’s main beach and south beach and Langdon Beach.

Pass holders will receive a temporary Wilmette Park District ID card that is valid during this time period.

Guest passes may also be purchased in accordance with standard Wilmette Park District policy and must be paid for by the pass holder.

Gillson Beach parking passes, also good through June 30, are available for purchase at a limit of one per household for $60.
