News Briefs: Two new District 112 leaders; tax bills late but on their way; local is AMA’s new CFO
Two new administrators are joining North Shore School District 112 following School Board approval on Feb. 17.
Sydnee McDermott, the new principal at Indian Trail Elementary School, and Allyssa Pease, a new student services coordinator, will begin on July 1.
McDermott is the assistant principal at Indian Trail and in the district has been a student services instructional coach and a special education resource teacher, according to District 112.
“Sydnee has earned the trust of the Indian Trail community through her steady, student-centered leadership and the strong relationships she builds with staff, students, and families,” Deputy Superintendent Monica Schroeder said in a statement. “We are proud to elevate a leader who has already served District 112 in meaningful roles, and her experience here will help her step into this position with a strong understanding of Indian Trail and how we support students.”
Indian Trail’s current principal, Tony Candela, is moving to a school in Northbrook.
Pease is the assistant principal of student services in Harrison School District 36 in Wonder Lake, a far northwest suburb.
She reportedly also has classroom teaching experience across elementary and middle school grade levels.
“We are thrilled to welcome Allyssa to our student services team,” Assistant Superintendent for Student Services Holly Colin said in the district’s release. “She is a thoughtful, steady leader who brings a practical perspective and a clear focus on what students need day to day. We look forward to her partnership with our staff and families.”
March 2 mailing for Cook County property tax bills
The first installment of Cook County property tax bills are expected to be mailed by Monday, March 2, and will be due by April 1, a month behind typical procedure, according to the county.
The first installment bills are typically mailed in early February, and the county says this delay was purposeful and sparked because of the four-month delay on the second installment bill in 2025. The 2025 delay was caused by technological issues.
“We pushed lawmakers for the extension to give property owners some breathing room after second installment bills for 2024 were late,” the county said in a statement.
Property owners do not have to wait for their mailed bill; they can pay online for free as of Feb. 20.
Property owners can also set up a payment plan with help from a county payment-plan calculator online.
