High School Highlights: Ramblers conquer GCAC tourney; 5 local girls wrestlers make sectional

Loyola 62, Notre Dame 38

Trey Williams tallied 18 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists in the Ramblers’ road victory on Tuesday, Feb. 10, in Niles.

New Trier 52, South Elgin 34

The Trevians (21-7) won going away on senior night Monday, Feb. 9, in Winnetka.

Highland Park 64, Marian Central 27

The Giants picked up a road win on Monday, Feb. 9, in Woodstock.

Fremd 49, New Trier 45

Danny Houlihan scored his 1,000 point as the Trevs dropped the nonconference matchup to the Vikings (23-2) on Saturday, Feb. 7, in Palatine.

New Trier 58, Glenbrook South 47

The Trevians won the league contest on Friday, Feb. 6, in Winnetka.

Loyola 61, De la Salle 39

Luke Alvarez and Sam Golden got 15 points apiece to lead four Ramblers in double-digits on Friday, Feb. 6, in Wilmette.

Trey Williams and Brody Munsey-Johnson chipped in 12 points each for Loyola.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
New Trier 45, Niles North 24

The Trevians collected the CSL crossover victory on Tuesday, Feb. 10, in Winnetka.

Also this week, senior Avery Schecter and juniors Emerson Buck and Vic Wainscott were named to the All-CSL South team.

New Trier 61, Downers Grover South 29

Avery Schecter buried five three-pointers for a game-high 15 points, while Catherine Shean scored 13 for the Trevians on Saturday, Feb. 7.

Loyola 54, Mother McAuley 38

Emily Naraky, Clare Weasler and Marycait Mackie were named to the All-GCAC Tournament team after the Ramblers topped the Macs on Saturday, Feb. 7, to win the tourney championship.

Maine West 48, Highland Park 39

The Giants dropped the conference matchup on Friday, Feb. 6, falling to 13-11 overall and 6-4 in the league.

GIRLS WRESTLING
IHSA Grayslake Central Regional

Sunny Aitzemkour won by pin to claim first place in the 110-pound bracket for New Trier on Saturday, Feb. 7.

Isabella Castro (105 pounds) and Zmorah Izenstark (130) each finished fourth in their respective brackets to also qualify for the sectional round for the Trevians.

Lexi Rosenthal (170) placed second and Lexie Hoobler (145) third in their brackets for Highland Park, and are both off to the sectional.

GIRLS BOWLING
IHSA New Trier Regional

Kirsten Hedberg led the Trevians, who finished third, to the sectional tournament with her pinfall of 1,118 on Saturday, Feb. 7.

Emma Devitt (961 pins), Audrey Frus (895) and Caroline Pea (892) also contributed for New Trier.
