Highwood teen charged with child-porn possession

Lake County detectives on Thursday arrested an 18-year-old Highwood man who allegedly was in possession of child pornography.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Elias Carballido, of the 200 block of Sheridan Road, had on his devices “dozens” of child-pornography videos and images depicting children under the age of 13 years old.

The state’s attorney’s office filed against Carballido seven felony charges of possession of child porn and reportedly is considering additional charges.

The sheriff’s investigation reportedly began with a tip from a social-media provider. Detectives obtained a search warrant for a home on Sheridan Road, and at the home, and with help from the Highwood Police Department, they seized Carballido’s electronics that contained the child pornography, according to a press release.

The search of the home was aided by the sheriff office’s electronic-detection dog, Enzo.

“Our Cyber Crimes Unit continues to consistently target and arrest some of the most dangerous online predators,” Sheriff John D. Idleburg said in the release. “This work is deliberate, ongoing, and essential to keeping children safe. These investigations and arrests will continue to be a priority of ours in our mission to protecting our community.”

Carballido had a court hearing Friday morning, Jan. 23, and the prosecutors reportedly filed a petition to detain Carballido in custody while awaiting trial.
