News Briefs: Post office fully reopens; New Trier picks Hall of Honor class; Trevs track coach earns state honor
The Wilmette Post Office is back and fully operational following a roof collapse in November.
The Village of Wilmette reported this week that the post office reopened on Monday, Jan. 12, a month after the branch partially reopened. Counter service, which was not offered in December, is available, as are all lobby services.
According to previous Record reporting, the Wilmette Fire Department responded to the post office on Nov. 10, when the ceiling in the mail-sorting room fell. One employee was in the facility at the time, but no one was injured.

Trevian is state’s track and field coach of the year
The accolades keep coming for New Trier’s track and field program.
Andrew Schmitt, the head coach of the Trevians’ boys team, was recently named 2025 coach of the year by the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The honor puts a bow on a historic year for New Trier track and field. The Trevs this season captured their first state championship since 1944 with a dominant performance.
New Trier was fueled at the state championships in Charleston by a record four first-place finishes. The title was the Trevs’ third in program history and first in the modern era. The program also claimed a title in 1933.
Ben Crane, Dylan Benjamin and William Landwer, who were all seniors at the time, took home first place across four events at the state final. It was the first time in program history that New Trier won four events at the state championship.
“We’re really proud,” Denise Dubravec, Winnetka campus principal and assistant superintendent said during the school board’s Dec. 8 meeting. Dubravec also noted that there will be a dinner event honoring Schmitt and the team for their achievements.
