Single-car crash results in death of Northfield man

A Northfield man was killed in a single-car crash on Friday evening in Northbrook, local authorities said.

Benjamin Muldoon, 29, of 500 Valley Way in Northfield, died around 5 p.m. Jan. 2 at the scene of the crash in the 500 block of Voltz Road, an area just east of Sunset Ridge Road in Northbrook, according to information from the Northbrook Police Department and Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Muldoon was driving eastbound on Voltz Road when his car left the roadway and struck a tree near a bend in the road, said Richard Rash, the community relations officer with the Northbrook PD.

Northbrook police posted to social media at 8:49 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, that it had responded to the crash and the local major-crash task force was conducting the investigation, which remains ongoing, Rash said.
