News Briefs: Rotary funds bike racks; Special Glencoe event on Saturday; Winnetka Caucus Council picks ahead of fall meeting
New bike racks can be found in some local parks, and the Rotary Club of Winnetka-Northfield can be thanked.
The club funded the purchase and installation of the blue racks at parks in both communities, according to its press release.
“These bike racks stand as a reminder that through Rotary we can each make a difference,” the release says.
The club’s president Kenneth Drummer also pointed out more impact from the Rotary this year and beyond.
“In the past year alone, our club has awarded over $25,000 in financial grants to 16 local non profits,” he said in the release. “We have provided new winter coats and shoes to over 2,000 Chicago area children in need, supplied food to the unhoused families in transition, and contributed toward Rotary International’s End Polio initiative and other humanitarian projects.
“We’re especially proud of our most recent international initiative of more than $150,000 to create a cooperative for women in a small town in Morocco.”
The Rotary Club of Winnetka-Northfield meets every Thursday at noon at the Winnetka Community House.

Free family event from Glencoe schools on Saturday
Glencoe School District 35 is inviting the community to participate in the family celebration Hearts and Minds in Motion from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Central School, 620 Greenwood Ave.
The free event is to celebrate World Heart Day and will feature live music from local band The Bed Heads, raffles and giveaways, heart-healthy snacks, games, and a giant inflatable heart, which will be the subject of guided tours from a local doctor.
Also, professional baseball player Liam Hendriks, a pitcher with the Boston Red Sox and formerly the Chicago White Sox, will be on hand and give a pitching lesson.
RSVP online for a free ticket, and all proceeds from the event will benefit the American Heart Association, the Lymphoma Research Foundation, and Family Service of Glencoe.
