Highland Park first-responders were called to a fire Thursday night in a multi-unit residence just east of the city’s downtown area.

A message from the City says the building at 317 Central Ave. was evacuated around 9 p.m. and that no injuries were reported.

The City also encouraged residents to avoid the area “to allow emergency crews to safely clear the building, extinguish the fire, and ensure the safety of surrounding structures.”

The extent of the damage and cause of the fire were unclear by press time (8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1).
