Athlete of the Week: 10 questions with Alexis Hirtzig, Trevians Fastpitch
Alexis Hirtzig is a right-handed pitcher on the Trevians Fastpitch 16U team. She is also a rising sophomore at Loyola Academy.
1. Do you have any pregame rituals or routines?
Not really. Just like when I go on the mound, I usually take a snap in my glove (throw ball into own glove). Before I pitch, I imagine I’m throwing a strike and it helps me throw better.
2. What is your favorite pitch to throw?
I really like throwing my curveball. It has really good break to it and gets a lot of batters to strike out on.
3. What is a pitch you want to develop more?
I just started learning my screwball. I want to develop that more so I can throw it in games when summer comes around.
4. If you could try another sport what would it be?
I play flag football, so I just want to get better at that as well. I play wide receiver and usually am running to catch the ball.
5. What has been your top sports highlight so far?
This season for Loyola I pitched a really good game against Montini. I pitched the whole game and we ended up winning. It was my first win of the season.
6. What is your dream job?
I really like working with kids. So something with that. I also like animals so maybe a veterinarian.
7. What is your favorite thing to do off the field?
I really like being with my friends and spending time with family and going to the beach, and I like playing flag football too.
8. If you are in Walgreens, with a couple bucks, what are you buying?
Probably candy. I really like sour candy like Airhead Xtremes and Jolly Rancher Ropes.
9. What is something people do not know about you?
A lot of people don’t know I have two dogs, Kona and Nala (Australian-bichon frise mixes; 1 1/2 years and 3 months), and also family.
10. What is your favorite part of playing softball?
I really like the community that I have in softball and I also like being around my friends and coaches. And I like seeing my improvement throughout season and all the seasons I’ve been playing.
