Boy hospitalized when SUV collides with scooter in Northfield
A 13-year-old boy suffered a serious head injury Saturday night when an SUV struck his scooter in Northfield, according to local police.
Northfield emergency units responded at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, to Willow Road and Sunset Ridge Road where an SUV reportedly had collided with a Northfield boy riding an electric scooter in the crosswalk across Willow.
Northfield police told The Record that the SUV had just begun accelerating with a green light and was traveling “at a low speed” at the time of the collision.
The boy, who was wearing a helmet, police said, was transported to Glenbrook Hospital and then Lurie Children’s Hospital. Police added that as of Sunday morning he was in critical condition.
No citations were given at the time of the incident, and an investigation into the collision is ongoing.
