Police Reports: More garage burglaries lead to WPD alert; identity theft arrests out of Glencoe

The following reports were pulled from the latest police summaries provided by departments in our coverage area (Wilmette, Winnetka, Highland Park, Northfield, Kenilworth and Glencoe).

WILMETTE

The Wilmette Police Department issued an alert on Feb. 28 calling attention to a string of burglaries to unlocked garages in east Wilmette.

According to the alert, all eight incidents occurred east of 9th Street and south of Forest Avenue and primarily between 1-5 a.m. In another incident in that area, an unlocked home was burglarized.

At least three individuals reportedly are involved in the burglaries. Police say the offenders “move on if a door is locked.”

Wilmette police are reviewing local camera footage and have increased patrols in the area, while also offering the following recommendations: keep all home doors locked, even while home; ensure that overhead garage doors are closed and access doors are locked; set alarms and surveillance systems, including during daytime hours; turn on exterior lights or utilize motion detection lights; close vehicle windows, lock vehicles, and remove key fobs and valuables; store in-vehicle garage door openers out of sight; let neighbors know when you leave town; and always report suspicious behavior by calling 911.
