Animals rescued, no injuries reported in home fire in Highland Park

The Highland Park Fire Department extinguished a fire on Wednesday morning at a home on Country Lane just north of Lake Cook Road near Northbrook Court shopping center.

According to a City of Highland Park press release, the fire was reported at 5:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, and the cause remains under investigation.

The release says the residents of the single-story structure were outside when fire units arrived, and that firefighters rescued a fish, a turtle and a cat. A second cat has not been found.

Firefighters reportedly encountered heavy fire in the rear of the house, citing that the fire was through the roof, and there was a partial roof collapse, according to the press release. Authorities temporarily blocked off a lane of traffic on Lake Cook Road during the emergency response.

Surrounding community fire departments aided HP fire department’s response to the fire and conducted search efforts. No firefighters were reported injured.
