Tumbling dunkers elevate annual Fun Fair in Northfield

The Sunset Ridge District 29 PTO Fun Fair is an annual hit. But there’s nothing wrong in taking it to new heights.

Erica Marinello had the idea to bring in high-flying guests for this year’s community event: the ChiCity Tumblers.

A member of the group leaps over a group of Sunset Ridge students at the fair.

The group consists of professional acrobats from across Chicagoland who wow crows with tumbling and trampoline-aided aerial acrobatics. The ChiCity Tumblers incorporate a basketball hoop to make for extraordinary finishes.

The fundraising Fun Fair always falls in line with the final day of school for Sunset Ridge D29 two schools, and this year was no exception with inflatables, food from Stormy’s Tavern, games and more on Wednesday, June 7, at Clarkson Park in Northfield.

Theo Selner, 5, poses with the Sunset Ridge school mascots during the event.

Thanks to Marinello’s daughter, Gemma, who has experience in power tumbling, Marinello was in contact with ChiCity Tumblers coach Seth Cronk. She contacted the group and the result could be seen at Clarkson Park.

“This is the first time we’ve done something like this,” she said, adding in an email that “having these talented performers in the small venue will provide an amazing experience for the community!”
