Barbecue and local news will join forces on Thursday, May 25

This fundraiser comes with napkins.

Pit & Tap barbecue will support local independent reporting on Thursday, May 25, when it helps raise funds for The Record North Shore, a nonprofit newsroom founded in 2020.

A portion of the day’s sales will go directly to The Record, and Editor in Chief Joe Coughlin will be a guest bartender from 4:30-8 p.m. with bar “tips” also going to The Record.

Expect drink specials and a guest appearance from The Record board member George Rafeedie.

Pit & Tap, 1168 Wilmette Ave., has served Texas-style barbecue in downtown Wilmette since it opened in 2021 — special thanks to its huge meat smoker nicknamed Big Earl.

The restaurants has also sponsored The Record‘s golf outings in 2021 and 2022.

The Record was founded in 2020 by former editorial leaders of 22nd Century Media (The Wilmette Beacon, Winnetka Current, etc.). Coughlin was one of the outlet’s founders, along with Megan Bernard and Martin Carlino.

Publishing local news every day, The Record relies on community support to drive its public-service reporting that is free for all to read.

Stay tuned to TheRecordNorthShore.org for more details on the fundraiser.
