Athlete of the Week: 10 questions with Nora Westol, New Trier soccer

Nora Westol is a senior forward for the Trevians, who are 9-0-1 as of Wednesday, April 12.

1. Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?

I always eat a banana on the car ride over. I’m not sure why. My mom likes to call it “fueling the tank.” Also the go-to song I listen to is “I” by Kendrick Lamar. That’s just something I’ve been doing for two years now. It always gets me excited and ready to pay.

2. What do you hope to do next year?

I’m not really sure. I’m applying (to colleges) as a nursing major. I’m interested to see how that will turn out. I think it’s between (the University of) Illinois and (the University of) Denver. I’m figuring out the pros and cons of each at the moment.

3. What is your favorite thing to do off the field?

I spend so much time with everyone on the team, it’s become my favorite thing. If had to say one, I really just love reading recently — but when I have time. It’s been difficult with how often we practice.

4. If you could play another sport, what would it be?

Volleyball. 100 percent. I’m limited because I’m 5 (foot) 1. It’s just so cool and so fast-paced. I haven’t really watched a lot of games, but I’ve recently seen a couple and it’s just a really cool sport.

5. What is your favorite television show?

It changes pretty often. Recently I’ve been into “New Girl.” It’s really funny. Just a great show.

6. If you are in Walgreens with a couple bucks, what are you buying?

I’m such a big spender. The first thing I see. I always gravitate toward a Milky Way, even if don’t buy anything else. I’d be proud for not spending any more money and think I deserve a Milky Way.

7. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

Japan. I’ve always just wanted to go there, because it’s so vastly different from American culture. I would love to get an experience where I could learn. I feel like Japan is in general cool as a culture. I would love to experience that for myself.

8 What is your dream job?

I’m not really a forward thinker. I just kind of figure things out along the way. I guess a doctor, but I know I don’t have the ability to sit through that much school.

9. What is something people don’t know about you?

I really like musical theater. I am a huge fan. I listen to a lot of that music and really would like to see a lot of things on Broadway.

10. How’s start of season, hope to accomplish.

The start of the season has been great. For a lot of returners, we really didn’t accomplish what we wanted to last year in terms of how we played and played together. … We want to go all the way and really prove that last year was a bit rough for us but we were still a team through it all. We want teams knowing were’ coming there to fight and win a lot of games and proving that to ourselves and our competition.
