High School Highlights: Local track stars take talents to Top Times, New Trier baseball struggles out of state

A summary of preps sports competition from area schools over the past week

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD
Illinois Top Times

Ronan O’Neill (400-yard dash) and Patrick Jamieson (800) picked up third-place finishes for New Trier at the indoor state championships on Saturday, March 26, in Bloomington.

Jack Brewer finished eighth in the 400 and 12th for the Trevians. Brewer and O’Neill teamed with Drew Duckler and Cade Pfister for an 11th-place finish in the 1,600 relay.

Aidan Simon crossed second in the 1,600 for Loyola Academy, while William Simon finished 12th in the 800. Clinton Ofosu and Enoch Appiah-Kubi took ninth and 11th, respectively, in the triple jump for the Ramblers.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
Illinois Top Times

Samarah Souffrant threw the shot put 11 meters, good enough for eighth place, for Loyola Academy Saturday, March 26, in Bloomington. Ashley Banaszek added an 11th and 13th in the triple jump (10.56 meters) and high jump (1.43 meters), respectively, for the Ramblers.

The Ramblers 1,600 relay team finished seventh, while Morgan Mackie was 10th in the 800 and Makena Clotoff 10th in the 60 hurdles.

BASEBALL
Blackman (Fla.) 6, New Trier 2

Louis Florida had two hits and an RBI and Dylan Mayer added an RBI as the Trevians fell to 0-4 after the loss Wednesday, March 30, in Nashville.

Oakland (Tenn.) 6, New Trier 2

Alex Mendes notched two hits in the Trevians’ loss Tuesday, March 29, the Warrior Classic in Nashville.

GIRLS SOCCER
Loyola 12, Providence 0

The Ramblers picked up a conference win as they celebrated the school’s faculty and staff Tuesday, March 29, in Wilmette.

Loyola 2, Highland Park 1

Kathryn Diblik and Kaitlyn Kurtz found the back of the net for the Ramblers in the nonconference victory Monday, March 28, in Wilmette.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Loyola 25-25, St. Ignatius 20-12

Ben Trapp racked up seven kills to lead the Ramblers on Tuesday, March 26, in Wilmette.

Mark Gonzalez added three aces and Stef Kins tallied 15 assists for Loyola.

Vernon Hills Tournament

Casey McMenamin passed out 13 assists and added three kills to lead Loyola Academy over Buffalo Grove 25-22, 25-13 in the consolation bracket championship Saturday, March 26.

McMenamin was named to the All-Tournament team as the Ramblers finished 5-1 and in fifth place.

BOYS WATER POLO
York Tournament

New Trier dropped Stevenson 10-2 on March 26 to claim third place with a 3-1 record in the tournament at York High School.

The Trevians defeated St. Igntatius, 16-6, and Pioneer (Mich.), 8-7, and lost to Lyons Township, 10-9, earlier in the tourney.

Loyola Academy took eighth in the event with losses to Stevenson (17-8), SLUH (15-5), York (15-2) and St. Ignatius (10-9).

The Ramblers picked up the nonconference win Monday, March 28.

GIRLS WATER POLO
Loyola 17, Resurrection 4

The Ramblers earned the victory on Wednesday, March 30.
