High School Highlights: NT, LA volleyball collect regional titles; Trevian field hockey advances to state championship

A summary of preps sports competition from area schools over the past week

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
New Trier 25-25, Maine South 13-17

The Trevians picked up their third consecutive regional title and 16th in 18 seasons with the sweep of the Hawks on Thursday, Oct. 27, in Hoffman Estates.

Loyola 25-25, Schaumburg 19-10

Mia McGrath led the Ramblers with six kills while Catherine Burke added six blocks and three aces as host Loyola earned its third straight regional title and sixth in seven seasons with the victory on Thursday, Oct. 27, in Wilmette.

Ava Bogan added four blocks and Maria Stevens 11 digs for the Ramblers.

New Trier 25-25, Taft 11-9

The top-seeded Trevians cruised to a first-round win in the IHSA Class 4A postseason tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 26.

Loyola 25-25, Von Steuben 6-6

Molly Power notched five kills and Malina Gataric and Maddie Meadows four apiece in the Ramblers’ win Tuesday, Oct. 26, in the opening round of the IHSA Class 4A tournament.

Lily Boland and Maggie Merck chipped in seven digs each for Loyola (30-6).

BOYS SOCCER
New Trier 4, St. Patrick 0

Matthew Perchik, Aidan Nicholson, James Paden and Karsten Segall all tallied for the Trevians as they won the regional title on Saturday, Oct. 23.

Glenbrook South 1, Loyola 0 (4-1 PKs)

The host Ramblers fell in a shootout in the regional championship on Saturday, Oct. 23, ending a 12-3-3 campaign.

Nick Falk did it again, besting the field by more than 20 seconds en route to the individual regional title and leading New Trier to the team title on Saturday, Oct. 23.

George Cahill (3rd), Patrick Jamieson (4th), Oscar Dueno-Alda (6th) and Blake Deger (8th) rounded out the scoring for the Trevians.

Spencer Werner, of Loyola Academy, finished second overall to lead his team to third place and a sectional berth.

In the girls race, Beatrix Gilson and Samantha Fellman finished fourth and seventh, respectively, for the Trevians, who won the team regional title. Clare Finnigan (10th) and Katherine Forbes (12th) were close behind for New Trier.

Loyola’s Jane Lynch took ninth and Ellie Grammas 11th as the Ramblers placed second to move on to the sectional race.

FIELD HOCKEY
New Trier 2, Glenbrook South 0

The No. 3 Trevians topped the No. 2 Titans in the state tournament semifinals on Thursday, Oct. 28, in Northfield.

New Trier advances to the title game to play Oak Park-River Forest, the fourth seed that upended top-seeded Lake Forest 3-0 on Thursday, Oct. 28.

New Trier 4, Loyola 0

The Trevians ousted the Ramblers from postseason play with a win in the quarterfinals on Friday, Oct. 22.
