High School Highlights: Dramatic tourney win for Trevs soccer; Another title for Ramblers volleyball

A summary of preps sports competition from area schools over the past week

BOYS SOCCER
New Trier 6, Highland Park 0

Seniors Ely Wilson, James Paden and Peter Kanellos were among six different Trevs who scored in the conference crossover victory Wednesday, Sept. 8, in Northfield.

New Trier 1, Lyons 1 (Shootout: New Trier 8, Lyons 7)

Aidan Crawford made three saves during the penalty-kick finale to lead New Trier (4-0-1) to the tournament title of the Northside College Showcase on Saturday, Sept. 4, in Northfield.

Evan Kanellos scored in regulation and made the All-Tournament team along with teammates Crawford, Ronan O’Neill and James Paden, as the Trevians captured their first Northside College Showcase title.

Loyola 1, Round Lake 0

Frank Miedema scored off an assist from Oliver Szorc to give the Ramblers a nonconference win on Saturday, Sept. 4.

North Shore Country Day 1, University High 0

Mason Roberts Jones scored on a penalty kick to give the Raiders the conference win Friday, Sept. 3, in Winnetka.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Loyola 25-24-25, Glenbrook South 25-26-18

The Ramblers (13-0) outlasted the Titans in a three-set thriller Wednesday, Sept. 8, in Wilmette.

Summer’s End Tournament

Molly Power racked up seven blocks to go with five kills in Loyola Academy’s 25-10, 26-24 victory over Deerfield in the championship of the Summer’s End Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 4, at New Trier High School in Winnetka.

Mia McGrath and Catherine Burke added six kills apiece to pace the Ramblers, who also topped Hersey (25-22, 25-12), Niles West (25-20, 25-12), Highland Park (25-10, 25-15) and Glenbrook North (24-26, 25-16, 25-11) en route to the tourney title.

New Trier won its pool before losing to Deerfield and then finishing third.

Taft 25-30, Regina Dominican 21-28

Maggie Kevin tallied six kills and Erin Collins eight digs for the Panthers in the nonconference loss Tuesday, Sept. 8.

BOYS GOLF
Buffalo Grove Invitational

Ryan Banas, of Loyola Academy, and Alex Felicione, of New Trier, carded a 68 to tie for medalist honors on Saturday, Sept. 4.

Charlie Colegrove and James Pryor chipped in 73s for the Trevians (288 total), who won the 16-team tournament by 12 strokes. The Ramblers (305) finished seventh.

GIRLS GOLF
Loyola 158, Regina 198, Trinity 216

The Ramblers won the tri-meet on Thursday, Sept. 2, while the Panthers Maggy Shaw shot a 44 to lead her team.

FIELD HOCKEY
Gateway Classic

New Trier recorded wins over Cor Jesu (4-1), Christian Academy (5-1) and Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day (2-0) to claim the Gateway Classic championship Saturday, Sept. 4, in St. Louis.

CROSS-COUNTRY
Harvest Christian Fall Classic

Nora McCabe, a freshman, took second overall with a time of 21 minutes 6.72 seconds for Regina Dominican, which took fourth out of seven teams on Saturday, Sept. 4, at Harvest Christian Academy in Elgin.
