Newcomers gain victory in Sunset Ridge D29 school board race

There will be three new faces joining the Sunset Ridge School District 29 Board of Education after voters elected Holt Zeidler, Abigayil Joseph and Samuel Dotzler into office.

Incumbent Nancy Detlefsen will not return to serve on the D29 School Board, where she held the vice president position.

Unofficial results show the four precincts cast 574 votes with 27 percent for Joseph (375 votes), 26 percent for Zeidler (361 votes), 25 percent for Dotzler (356 votes) and 21 percent for Detlefsen (294 votes).

The race was contested as three board members’ terms expired — those of Detlefsen, Bill Hayes and Anne Peterson — and four people sought election.

Assuming the results hold, Detlefsen told The Record she wished the very best for the newcomers as they serve the community.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity I’ve had to serve our kids and schools over the last term and wouldn’t trade it for anything,” she added.
