New Trier’s ‘Newsies’ a product of more than 125 students’ work

Tickets on sale now for four virtual shows March 20-21

New Trier High School’s production of “Newsies: The Musical” will mark 101 years of the choir opera musical with four virtual streams available the weekend of March 20-21.

The school’s “Newsies: The Musical” will be streamed at 4 and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 20, and 1 and 4 p.m. Sunday, March 21. Tickets are now available here for $5.

The production was filmed in the Gaffney Auditorium with more than 125 students combined participating in the orchestra, cast, crew and Soundtraks, according to a press release from the school.

Set in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the news boys’ and girl’s expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right, the release says.
