Police investigating car shooting on Edens near Northfield

Four people are safe after a car in which they were traveling was struck by multiple gunshots Sunday evening while on the Edens Expressway near Tower Road, according to a press release from Illinois State Police.

A 16-year-old girl sustained minor injuries from “debris” caused by the bullets, reportedly fired from another vehicle on the interstate around 10:35 p.m.

The victim car exited the Edens at Old Orchard Road, where police officers responded, the release says. None of the other three passengers were reported injured.

State police did not immediately return a message from The Record.

“The events surrounding the shooting remain under investigation and no further information is available at this time,” the release says.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call (847) 294-4400.

Illinois State Police responded to another expressway shooting seven hours later on Interstate 290 near Kolmar Avenue on Chicago’s west side.

An 18-year-old male sustained “serious but non-life-threatening injuries” in the shooting.
